The highly anticipated match later by the local football fans, where the under-23 team, coached by Olympic coach of Malaysia Ong Kim Swee will start the challenge in the group stage (third round) the qualifications of the 2012 Olympic Games Asian zone.
Malaysian Olympic squad was drawn in Group C with Japan, Syria and Bahrain. The fate of the national senior squad, the Tiger of Malaya who fail to the next round but with U-23 national team successfully advanced to the round of 12 best in Asia.
The Olympic team will face Japan on the date of 21 September which will be held at the Stadium Tosu, Fukuoka and reciprocal (second leg) on February 22, 2012 at Bukit Jalil. Route in the early stages of qualification, Pakistan defeated Malaysia 2-0 in the first round and 2-1 over Lebanon in the second round.
