SPORT | ATLET SUKMA WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN TERIMA INSENTIF RM464,500

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) - Payment of incentives amounting RM465,500 by Federal Territory Sports Council (MSWP) to Federal Territory athletes who won medals at 14th Malaysia Games (SUKMA) is to encourage them to improve their performance.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik said the incentives would encourage the athletes and teams to strive harder and focus on developing sports in FT.

"This incentive will increase the morale of athletes and prepare them for 15th SUKMA in Pahang in 2012," he said when presenting incentives to FT contingent to 14th Sukma here Thursday.

He said all quarters need to mobilise energy and strategy to improve the contingent's position at SUKMA.

The FT contingent won 7 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze medals to finish fifth of 14 states in the medal standing.



Athletes who won individual gold medals received RM3000, team received RM1,500, individual silver received RM1,500, team received RM1,000 while individual bronze winners received receive RM1,000 and team received RM800.

Some RM64,800 was provided to gold medal winners, RM128,700 to silver winners and RM39,000 to bronze winners.

Apart from the athletes, managers and coaches also received incentives amounting RM118,000 for improving the team's performance.

Sports associations received incentives amounting RM114,000 based on the total medals won.

Canoeing was the largest recipient of incentives with RM78,300 followed by fencing with RM70,200.
