1Malaysia Retail Chain Will Be Expanded For The Benefit Of The People - PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The government will expand the network of the 1Malaysia retail outlets (Kedai 1Malaysia) to enable more people to purchase necessities at lower prices, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.He said the initiative was a positive intervention by the government to help the people to cope with the increasing cost of living.
Taking garlic as an example, the prime minister said the item was sold at RM3.38 per kilogramme at Kedai 1Malaysia as compared to RM6 per kilo at normal retail outlets while for a 10kg packet of "super tempatan" rice, it was RM21.99 and RM25.80 respectively.
"I find the Kedai 1Malaysia retail concept to be immensely beneficial to the people as the prices are far lower than at normal retail outlets.
"I believe the people will appreciate the opening of more Kedai 1Malaysia," he said after launching the second Kedai 1Malaysia in the Klang Valley in Bandar Tun Razak here Sunday.
Also present were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin.
Najib said the third Kedai 1Malaysia in located in Pantai Dalam in the city was expected to come onstream next week. The first was opened in Kelana Jaya in June.
Najib said the government also planned to retail items sold at Kedai 1Malaysia at retail outlets participating in the TUKAR (Transformasi Kedai Runcit) programme.
He said the government targeted having 500 TUKAR outlets by year end. So far there are 200 such outlets throughout the country.
The Kedai 1Malaysia are managed by Mydin Mohamed Holding Berhad. Some 250 retail items under the 1Malaysia brand are sold at them.
